Meet your dance instructor

We are very excited to introduce the owner of De La Vida Dance Studio and one of the instructors for our Havana Nights event, David Lombaard. As you'll see below David has loads of experience as a professional dancer and teacher making him and his team perfect for showing you the ropes.

We quizzed David on what we can expect for the event - and his enthusiasm for dance is already making our feet itch to get dancing.

MFH: How did you get into Dancing? Why Dancing?

David: I have been dancing since I was 3 years old when my parents introduced me to traditional South African Culture Dancing. I only started my Pro Dancing Career at the Age of 14. I joined a dance school with a few of my friends - the bug bit and there was no looking back.

Since then, I have been part of the South African team, travelling worldwide, competing and representing South Africa in all styles. Latin, Ballroom, Contemporary, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, Ballet and Show Dance. After all my travels, I decided to start my studio to share my love for dance.

MFH: What can we expect to learn at the Event at MFH?

David: We will be doing a bit of Mambo and Tango. You will learn in a group format where no one needs to feel shy, and everyone can have fun.

MFH: What is your best advice for people eager to learn but afraid to start?

David: Anybody can dance! With the right teacher, you will never be afraid to learn. We teach you step by step from the very beginning.

MFH: Tell us about your dance school.

David: We are a group of teachers with a collective experience of over 35 years. We teach both social and international dancers. Anybody is welcome at our studio, whether you want to dance for fun and fitness or want to compete and become a brilliant dancer.

We have open classes every week and even throughout the year. We are a family-orientated studio, so all ages are welcome. Its a safe and fun environment to learn and meet new people.

MFH: What if I have two left feet? Should I have dancing experience?

David: You don’t need a partner or any experience: we will turn your two left feet into a dancing left and right foot.

MFH: What should I wear?

David: You do not necessarily need to wear heels and can dress comfortably. But our venue Milner Fashion House challenges you to take the Havana theme as inspiration or this might just be the perfect opportunity to put on your favourite dress.

Thank you David! We can't wait to see what you and your team have in store for us. If you were still undecided and David just convinced you to join us - there is still a few tickets left! Book here - and get your dancing feet ready.
